Schedule of Classes

If you are local to the BC Lower Mainland we look forward to seeing you in person. Our COVID-19 precautions are listed here. Thank you for helping to keep our instructors and students safe by being mindful of these rules.

Spaces for in-person courses are limited, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before purchasing a course, please submit a registration form to ensure we have space for you. We will email you confirmation and an invoice that can be paid by cheque, cash, e-transfer, or by credit card in the shop below.

Courses

Beginner Riding & Horsemanship

Just starting out, or been out the saddle for a long time?  This course is for you.  In these four two-hour classes you will learn to catch, lead, groom, tack up and un-tack a horse before and after your group riding lesson.  Our school horses are gentle teachers who will carry you safely while you learn to walk and trot through circles and turns, over poles, and around obstacles.  Included free with the series is access to our online materials, plus bonus live chat horsemanship discussions over Discord with our knowledgeable teachers.

Beginner Riding & Horsemanship
Sundays 11am – 1:30pm, 2 – 23 May
Sundays 11am – 1:30pm, 6 – 27 June
Online lessons: Thursdays 7pm – 8pm, 3rd & 17th May

Riding & Horsemanship Level 1 – 2

This class is for riders who have passed Horsemanship Level 1 and are working towards Riding Level 1. Horsemanship material is similar to Level 1 but more in-depth. Includes access to our online materials, plus two bonus live chat horsemanship discussions over Discord. Riding Level 1 – 2

This 45 minute class is for riders who have passed Horsemanship Level 1 and are working towards Riding Level 1. Riders must be able to groom and tack up independently and be in the ring, ready to ride at 6pm sharp.

Riding & Horsemanship Level 2 – 3

If you have taken Beginner Riding & Horsemanship, or if you are comfortable at the walk and trot and are able to groom, tack up, and untack a horse on your own, you may be eligible to take Level 2.  Call us at 604 304 0201 or email info@academiecavallo.ca if you’re unsure if this is the right class for you.  Riding work includes walk, trot, and canter on the flat and over poles and small jumps.

Riding Level 3+

This 45 minute class is for riders who have passed Riding Level 2 and are working higher levels. Riders should be in the ring and ready to ride at 6:45pm

Riding Level 4+

This class is for riders who are comfortable at walk, trot, and canter, and wanting to move on to jumping and/or more advanced dressage.

Mounted Combat Green Spur Class

Designed for sword practitioners at the apprentice (Green Cord or Green Spur) level, this class covers the swordplay skills you’ll need to assess for your Blue Spur, and gives insight into how swordplay alters from the ground to the horse.

Mounted Combat Mastery

If you have your Green Spur or higher, come and join us on horseback to work on swordplay, riding, games, and sparring skills.  Those without Level 1 Riding are welcome to join us on the ground for on-foot versions of the plays and drills.  Limit of 6 participants per class till future notice.

Advanced Horsemanship Course

This full year course will take you through all the topics of the Horsemanship Level 5 curriculum, with quarterly reviews and assessments. Topics include stabling, equine nutrition, grooming, conformation & unsoundness, hoof & farriery, saddlery, bandaging, diseases of the horse, equine first aid, conditioning, and travel, at an in-depth level.

In general there will be one online session and one in-person session per month, with the exception of February 2021, which has two online sessions, and March, which has two in-person sessions.  Classes happen on Monday evenings at 7pm pacific time.

At the end of the course participants can expect to be able to examine for Horsemanship Level 5.  For those who have not yet tested levels 1 through 4, there will be quarterly assessment opportunities to test lower levels if desired.  No prior experience is needed to take the course: this information is valuable to anyone who is interested in horses and horse care.

Tuition and Punch Cards

There are three ways to pay for classes: monthly tuition, punch cards, and per-class drop-ins. If you’re taking more than one class per month tuition almost always works out to be less expensive. However, if your schedule is variable, a 10-session punch card may be the solution. Below is a price comparison of monthly tuition vs 10-class punch cards vs drop-in classes.
